03:23 pm - What to use for Squirrel tail
Since the obvious choice would've been Rust Fox Fur and that one being discontinued, what would you suggest I use to make a squirrel tail still look like a squirrel tail?

I beleive part of the solution is in the pattern (for which I'm also open to suggestions) but do you think I could get away with a shorter than 3" pile? The red fur I have right now is more like 1"... I'd need to find something to match it but still look as if a lil longer...

02:49 pm - I make an announcement about what?
Okay...I make an announcement about.....what?

It's CONFUZZLED!!!

That's right! [info]calihusky wants me to go to CF after I watched [info]bigbluefox's 2008 CF videos. It looked like it was fun there!

Why? Because my British furiends want me to go to CF next May, 2009 and have fun!

I'll go to Manchester, England on May 21st until 26th.

It will be my second European trip (EF in Suhl, Germany this year and CF in Manchester, England next year).

I will decide to skip FurFright or MFF next year cuz of that. :P *Saves more money* (>.<)

Are you excited about me who'll go to CF next year or what?

^.^

11:49 am - Global Thermonuclear War
Adding on to yesterday's crappiness, I realized at about 8:57pm last night that last night was the 25th aniversary screening of WarGames in select theaters. I had been looking forward to seeing it on the big screen. The closest theater showing it was Fairfield, which wasn't a problem. However, the only show time was 7:30. So I completely missed it. *Cries*

I did get some good news last night though. Felin IM'd me that he had found my necklace, I'm going to get it back frm him at the campout next weekend.

01:16 pm - Miscellaneous Qs
Hey everyone :D

Well, my half-suit/partial (paws/tail/shirt) is almost done. It's been going in bits and pieces 'cause of my hectic work schedule and PC blowing.

What I've done is I've made the handpaws, and since it's a long pile fur (and I'll be working on the registers at work and moving around like crazy on Halloween before the children come by for treats in our community), I made the paws removable at the wrists and made sleeves that go nearly up to my armpits, which are also removable from the shirt itself. This way, if I overheat at work, I can take the fur-shirt off and throw on a short-sleeved shirt, and I'll have my paws/lower arms/mid-arms covered, so I won't spoil the illusion. I only have a few things left to get done...

Question time!

1) Ears. I have a short-haired purple wig and long, narrow furry ears that I made. I'd like to attach them via fishing line. Is this doable? How would I make the clasp for them to stay/tie on at the back of my head? I've seen this method with some costume horns at stores before around Halloween. I'd be adding poseable wire inserts into the ears to make 'em stand up straight if fishing line would work. Otherwise, should I just try a slim headband and attempt to hide it with some scrap fur?

2) Cooling. I have a spandex (or is it lycra? Can't recall offhand) unitard that I can wear underneath the fur-shirt. Now, with an AC on medium/6 temp control in 80 degree weather and without the unitard thing, I heat up within 10 minutes. I'm planning on making a vertical slice (since it's long fur, it'll hide it) and install a zipper or velcro (I'm thinking zipper, since I'll be moving a lot) in the side for easy on/off, since I'll have a wig, makeup, and all sorts of latex prosthetics on.

So how long, with ample water provided (I usually go through a 1.5 liter bottle in 5-7 hours at work normally), would fursuiters wisely be able to wear a fur-shirt with cool cotton/summer-weight pants on? I'm trying to figure out how long I can safely wear it before it's time to swap out of it and into the shirt. Character-wise, it would look like my character went from being shirtless to having a shirt on, so there's no worries there. :)

3) Hooves! I just had the -awesome- PunkCat of this community make me my first 'suit commission- a pair of gorgeous, clydesdale style-tufted cloven hooves for Versin. :) They were built on a pair of 2" tall high heels.

So here's another Q: Should I wear 'em around the house to 'break them in' like with normal walking/running shoes, or is that a no-no with high heels? Also, I'll be on even ground inside the store and on red brick sidewalks when I'm not- can anyone give me some experience stories about hooves so that I can better prepare myself for it, as well as how long feet can last in high heels before you get excruciating pain? I've got a pair of furry, 'normal' footpaws I made (as shown in previous entries) for when I need to switch out of 'em, but I'd like to wear Punk's hooves as long as I can! They're full of awesome.

Once everything's completed I'll post up pics of the final. I'm missing a fursuit head (broke!), but using latex appliances to cover for that and enable better flexibility for my job when I work or whenever I suit up.

Thanks so much, everyone. :)

Okay, Here goes...

This is a head I'm starting for a friend of mine. She's nice enough to let me get practice in, and for this, I'm not charging her minus cost of materials.

06:43 pm - A natural mineral water use a wolf as mascot! :p
Hi pals! ^__^
Do you want some natural mineral water in your glass?

I guess everyone know about those French Brands "Evian" and "Volvic", yeah France has a good reputation about it but here is another one
"Valvert"! I like and drink it since some time because it's good one but also about 2 more things, devotion for nature protection, they use recycle packaging and a wolf as mascot. :)
Try it! :p (I don't think this brand is exported outward)

06:49 am - invincible.. the series...?
So in my daily look at the comic book world at large looks like Kirkman is doing a deal with Mtv on his comic.. kinda sucks honestly.. well the concept is a little weird. Instead of doing a cartoon they are animating the physical comic. It's hard to describe fully but .. yah you have to just see this..

http://www.invincibleseries.com/

Basically it seems almost like what would happen if you combined flash with books on tape and a comic.

07:47 am - Nintendo facing patent lawsuit over DS.
Illinois man claims to have touched first.

Thanks to its innovative design and wealth of fantastic games, the Nintendo DS has scrambled to the top of the handheld gaming war, making the hardware wizards at Nintendo the darlings of the games industry.

But what if they don't hold the patent on the touchy tech?

As reported by video game blog Gamepolitics, John R. Martin has filed a complaint alleging that he owns the patent on the system's lauded touch screen. While the patent was updated in August of 2005 -- a full six months after Nintendo launched the DS -- it was originally filed a decade earlier in 1995.

The patent seems to cover the key input ingredient of Nintendo's popular handheld, citing "an improved method of operating a touch screen on a CRT or ICD computer screen [that] uses finger release as input registering" in "an electronic game device system [which] is switchable between an amusement mode and a gaming or gambling mode and is useful for vehicles such as airplanes or boats..."Sounds a little like the DS to us, minus the gambling bit.

Nintendo, however, doesn't see the connection -- the company has responded by requesting that the entire suit be summarily dismissed.

This isn't Nintendo's first scrape with patent infringement. Earlier this year the company coughed up $21 million to tech company Anascape over several Nintendo game controllers, including their famous Wavebird, widely considered the first legitimate wireless game controller.

11:48 pm - Hiding a zipper?
I'm going to be sewing my bodysuit up tomorrow or the next day, or at least at some point in this week, but I'm having a major issue on how to cut the pattern out for a "hidden" zipper type entry-not sure if I should leave more fur on one side of the seam, or whatever. o_o

Links to how to set up a hidden zipper is also great, considering I've never done it before. (diagrams are preferred, since I'm quite brain-dead currently.)

I... uh, thought there was a section in the memories for this, but I couldn't find anything in it.

10:26 pm - coloring irises? (tips, suggestions, preference..)
I finished my second pair of 'toony eyes and colored them the same way as my first, by painting with acrylic paint around the pupil. However, it's difficult to hide strokes, plus the paint chips fairly easily! and overall it just does not look as put-together as the rest of the head.

so, what are some alternatives when doing irises? what different mediums, that sort of thing?

er, anything eye-wise you find helpful would be appreciated, for future reference. :)

10:23 pm - Ida update
Hey, Fursuit! Remember Ida, the... Iunno, dragon-thing?

She's back, with a few improvements- I personally like her a lot, but I figured I'd post her for you guys to see. She's almost a complete partial now (I have the head, tail, and handpaws- I just need to do the feetpaws, which shouldn't take more than a few hours), and when she's done I'm planning on wearing her or my first partial for Halloween, since there aren't any cons where I live.

Remember, before you crit- I happen to like this design a lot now with the changes made, so if the business of the maroon and blue swirls bothers you, it's a bit too bad. XD To each their own, right? If there's anything you can point out structurally (Like how to help fix a crooked jaw- I need some help with that one) or something that you think looks wrong in that strain, please say so! :3 (And, again, I really can't do anything with the ears. D: I know they're back too far, but it doesn't look too bad when she's actually being worn.)

Anyway, now I post some pics...
